Primary Responsibilities

In the role of Louisiana Coastal Team Lead, we'll count on you to:

HDR has an excellent opportunity to join our strong and growing Coastal Practice group. The position will be based in our Metairie, LA office.

We are seeking a Louisiana Coastal Team Lead with coastal engineering/project management experience, coastal engineering design experience, numerical modeling experience, and the ability to execute projects and help expand our coastal services practice in new regions and markets. Candidate should have a strong technical background in coastal engineering analysis and coastal resiliency including extended experience with projects applied to coastal processes. Responsibilities will include managing projects, serving as coastal engineering technical lead, supervising/mentoring junior staff, development, and implementation of business strategies for growth of our coastal services practice in Louisiana, leading and supporting pursuit teams nationwide, and preparing proposals including project scope and fee estimates. Suitable candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills and demonstrate familiarity with sea level rise, coastal resiliency, coastal infrastructure, wave growth and transformation, coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, littoral processes, and sediment transport.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the Louisiana coastal team. This includes taking responsibility for staff development, morale, quality control, profitability and marketing support. It also includes coordinating with other HDR teams and prioritizing projects and staffing to meet scope, schedule, and budget commitments.
  • Plan and manage all aspects of small to medium single-discipline projects or large, routine projects.
  • Track the financial aspects of the projects and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the scope, schedule and budget.
  • Promoting and helping to expand the coastal services and staff in Louisiana.
  • Establish client relations and be involved with the marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings.
  • Coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of business class staff and products to meet client needs and market drivers, all within direction and goals of business class plans for Louisiana.
  • Participate in business class practice and professional discipline groups, project teams and activities to continually improve standards and best practices and implement effective quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Perform technical design and analysis of coastal engineering projects within Louisiana and throughout the US, including but not limited to preparation of construction plans and specifications.
  • Candidate must be able to travel.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Coastal, Ocean, or Civil Engineering (Hydraulic, Ocean, or Environmental emphasis)
  • Louisiana PE or ability to acquire within six months
  • 10 years minimum of relevant experience (i.e. consulting, coastal engineering research, etc.)
  • Project management experience
  • Experience preparing technical reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate familiarity with wave growth and transformation, coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics, littoral processes, sediment transport, and basic geotechnical or structural systems on the Gulf Coast
  • Ability to work both independently and in group environments
  • An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Coastal or Ocean Engineering
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
