Job Description

The IFF Pharma division has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a QC Laboratory Supervisor at the manufacturing facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana. This specialty, batch production facility produces METHOCEL, a cellulosics based polymer, which serves pharmaceutical and industrial specialties markets.

The QC Laboratory Supervisor is directly responsible for inspection and quality control activities to meet specifications and quality standards for a variety of in process and finished products. This roleis responsible for managing the Quality Control laboratory. Including, but not limited to, managing costs and human resources to provide timely analyses that meet the needs of production and sales.

Job Requirements

  • Direct responsibility for inspection and quality control activities to meet specification and quality standards.
  • Responsible for incoming and in-process inspection, sampling, vendor and final testing and inspection of finished products.
  • Plans and directs the work activities for employees in these functions.
  • Must be able to conduct testing and cover shifts to support business needs.
  • Review complaints received from customers to correct deficiencies.
  • Assists in development and modification of quality control procedures..
  • Suggests changes in standards, test equipment and gauges to facilitate work and maintain quality.
  • Interacts with production supervisors to determine and resolve quality related problems.
  • Performs normal supervisory functions for a department.
  • Maintain a log of all equipment and instruments and ensure all are in a calibrated state.
  • Ensure that all critical equipment and instruments have a back-up.
  • Proficient in writing and engaging in lab out of specifications (OOS) and lab deviations.
  • Ensure all lab procedures and SOPs reflect current corporate policies and procedures through review, revising, and approving of SOPs.
  • Conduct second level peer review of all lab data and approval in LIMS.
  • Ensure inventory of all lab supplies are current.
  • Ensure all lab personnel are current with safety training per EHS monthly training,
  • Ensure all lab personnel are trained and documented.
  • Ensure safe practice in the lab is followed at all times.
  • May be required to serve as the subject matter expert (SME) in customer audits.
  • Perform job duties in a manner that follow food safety and quality guidelines including but not limited to HACCP, GMPs, QCA Policies, Sanitation, and Pest Control.

Required

Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or related fields.

Knowledge of

  • Quality Control procedures
  • Standard methods
  • Laboratory safety
  • SOP review, revision, and approval
  • Pharmaceutical cGMP, EXiPACT, and ISO-9001 2015

Ability to

  • Collect, process and analyze data
  • Communicate effectively both in writing and verbally
  • Work effectively within teams.
  • Troubleshoot instruments such as GC and GC-MS
  • Troubleshoot and investigate out of specifications (OOS) to determine assignable root cause

Skill in

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Lab equipment operation and maintenance for Gas Chromatography and Gas Chromatography Mass Spec
