Job Description

International Fragrances & Flavors Inc (IFF) is looking for an experienced Reliability Engineer for our Gibson City, Illinois Nourish site.


The Reliability Engineer at Gibson City provides the technical expertise on all matters of reliability engineering, assessment, and periodic monitoring for process equipment. They carry out reliability studies on existing equipment and recommends needed improvements to site management in the areas of equipment philosophies, strategies and best practices for asset productivity. They are the "go to person" for all matters of equipment reliability. They focus on enhancing equipment reliability through analysis along with some first response, day-to-day troubleshooting of failed equipment.


As a Reliability Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and implement equipment improvement plans using site Strategic Asset.
  • Management Plan, Preventative Maintenance (PM) Optimization, and other reliability techniques.
  • Perform physical failure analysis, determine root cause of equipment failures and conduct equipment performance evaluations in order to increase equipment effectiveness.
  • Analyze equipment trends & historical data to recommend and justify improvements for
  • increasing site asset reliability.
  • Promote consistency by standardizing equipment installation and repair procedures.
  • Support capital projects by participating in setting equipment criteria and specifications to
  • optimize equipment/system design and life cycle cost.
  • Provide technical support for fabrication, installation, and start-up of new critical equipment.
  • Participate in production shutdown planning, providing input into needed equipment inspections and repair activities.
  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks, sharing best practices, successes and
  • failures.
  • Report monthly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics related to reliability.
  • Be part of a rotating on call group to assist with identifying correct materials and repair.
  • plans for afterhours equipment failures.
Job Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in Engineering is required; focus in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, from ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum 1 years of applicable experience; demonstrated ability to work safety and effectively as an engineer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work with others involved in a variety of functions including skilled maintenance personnel, process operators, engineers of various disciplines, management, and other leaders to impact plant performance in a positive way.
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects.
  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience in a soy processing environment - soybean preparation, extraction, extrusion, packaging preferred.
  • Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) system requirements preferred.

Functional Skills:

  • Rotating equipment and alignment techniques.
  • Fundamental Materials Science, including material selection and properties.
  • Lubrication, and fundamentals of interpreting oil analysis results.
  • Interpretation of various vendor reports including vibration analysis and infrared thermography.
  • Data analysis of equipment and identification of trends.
  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Engineering design standards and their application.
  • Cost/Capital analysis and justification.
