This job manages the daily operations of the Security Department, plans and organizes all functions of the department including hiring, staffing levels and staff development, command of all shifts, design of post assignments, enforcement of security principles and practices, development of procedures, budgeting and purchasing. This job provides guidance and support to shift supervisors regarding all departmental issues including enforcement of policies and procedures, human resource issues and security services provided. This job supports leadership in security planning and development of programs, including physical and electronic security and assumes lead role in investigation of security incidents and is the liaison for local law enforcement agencies. This job coordinates emergency preparedness and response activities for assigned location(s).

Education

Required -Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

*Additional years of leadership law enforcement experience may be substituted in lieu of degree requirements.

Work Experience

Required -7 years of related experience including 5 years of leadership law enforcement experience

Certifications

Required -Valid driver's license in the state of practice

Supervisory International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

  • Skilled in design and application of computerized and electronic intrusion detection, access control and video surveillance systems.

  • Exhibits skills to manage within a budget and understand financial statements sufficient to analyze trends and make recommendations.

  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.

  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., more than 8 hours a day).

Job Duties

  • Commands all security shifts including supervision of Lieutenants, Sergeants, Officers and contracted services.

  • Coordinates training exercises, drills and preparedness training in accordance with regulatory requirements.

  • Maintains current and effective EOC Management Plans for Security, Emergency Preparedness, and evaluate the plans on a yearly basis.

  • Conducts interviewing, hiring, performance review and corrective action of employees.

  • Develops and implements improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Security leadership.

  • Assists with management of the Emergency Preparedness function.
