Lexicon Pharmaceuticals is not just looking for the typical Medical Science Liaison candidate; but, we currently recruiting for a Cardiovascular Medical Science Liaison/Medical Science and Outcomes Liaison candidates (CV MSL/MSOL) with cardiovascular experience for the Great Lakes (MI, IN, OH, WV) Territory. A CV MSL/MSOL is a field-based medical professional engaging in scientific exchange with key opinion leaders and population health decision makers with payer accounts as part of a fully integrated field team. Candidates with heart failure and/or cardiovascular disease experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Job Summary:

The Cardiovascular Medical Science and Outcomes Liaison (CV MSOL) will serve as a Lexicon point of contact to the medical/scientific and payer community. The CV MSOL will be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining the medical and scientific relationships with nationwide and regional key opinion leaders (KOLs). The incumbent will also be the lead medical and scientific point of contact for health-economic and medical/scientific discussions with payer accounts, Integrated Delivery Networks (IDNs) and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs). He/she will discuss clinical and health outcome data, and relevant medical information with the medical and pharmacy members of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committees (P&T) as well as the internal medical and scientific advisors to the P&T Committees.

This position requires working with other audiences such as nurses, pharmacists, and patient advocacy groups as well as working cross-functionally with Lexicon employees in other departments to ensure proper alignment of MSOL goals with company's business goals and compliance and ethical standards.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Identify and develop relationships with national and regional medical and scientific KOLs consistent with the strategy and objectives of the Medical Affairs department and overall strategies in relation to Sotagliflozin.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with identified payer opinion leaders, formulary decision makers in practice and/or academia to discuss therapeutic areas important at Lexicon.
  • Engage in scientific exchange and education about Lexicon's compounds and emerging therapies and ensure appropriate dissemination of clinical and scientific information in relation to Sotagliflozin in the treatment of heart failure.
  • Work to pair our internal and external key customer's educational and research needs with available Lexicon's resources and provide latest emerging data in response to specific healthcare professional inquires.
  • Partner with advocacy groups as needed, to develop strategic interactions and patient-aimed communication materials.
  • Deliver against engagement plans for key decision makers and payer-accounts in collaboration with Lexicon field-based and non-field- based colleagues.
  • Assist with medical affairs activities, including medical information services and publication planning.
  • Provide support as requested to advisory board meetings as well as other scientific activities, such as medical booths at scientific meetings.
  • Provide scientific and clinical expertise to the commercial team, by assisting with sales force training and with identifying, training and evaluating speakers.
  • Capture and report medical insights using CRM to help inform the Company's medical and clinical strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced scientific or health related degree required. MD, PhD, or PharmD degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in Cardiovascular Medicine and Heart Failure, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a field medical role in cardiometabolic and/or renal biology therapeutic area is required.
  • Strong scientific/medical expertise and demonstrated expertise in the ability to synthesize and communicate medical information clearly.
  • Candidates with Outcomes Liaison experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience in presenting health outcome data to payers and C-suite members.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Lexicon to the medical community and to develop and maintain credible and scientific relationships with leading national and regional medical experts in Heart Failure Disease and Health Outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and formal presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of the drug development process plus in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations including PhRMA, OIG and other guidelines relating to compliant medical communications is required.
  • Must be a proactive team player with highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to function on a cross-functional team
  • Ability to work independently in field location with travel 40-60% (based on size of geographic territory)
